Storm Season Is Upon Us… Be Ready For Your Diabetic Dog

Storm Season Is Upon Us... Be Ready For Your Diabetic Dog

I know that we’ve talked about this in the past, but you can never be too ready when you have a diabetic dog. I’m remembering back a few years when a member of our group lost power and services for weeks from Hurricane Michael. She and her husband went to stay with relatives for several weeks until they could return to their home. That solved the immediate problem of shelter, but kicked off some other issues of supplies. When they evacuated, they took most of what they had on hand, but needed much more. They left Florida and sheltered in Alabama. The laws for syringes and insulin were different. So, knowing that, when you decide where you will go to shelter, be familiar with the laws where you are heading. Also, having as much of a stockpile to pack up before heading out will be helpful. Not just supplies, but also cash. Maybe just tuck away a little cash each week. If you need it, it’s there. If you don’t, bonus!

The National Hurricane Center is calling for a very active season this year. Don’t be fooled into thinking that just because you don’t live on the coast, that it will not impact you. These storms can be huge and their impact is far reaching.

Also, keep in mind that the aftermath of a hurricane or severe storm can last for weeks. Power outages, blocked roads, etc. can impact not just your area, but the area where distribution centers are located. Our PetTest distribution center is in North Carolina, so even if your area isn’t directly affected, wherever your orders are coming from may be impacted and affect your ability to get your products/supplies.

The moral of the story is that the better prepared you are going into the storm season, the better chance you have of surviving it unscathed.
