Your “Under The Weather” Diabetic Dog

Your "Under The Weather" Diabetic Dog

Today is a milestone for me… This is my 100 th blog post! So, I’d like to take a quick second to say thank you for following along and giving me a chance to share tips and tricks to smoothing out your Diabetic Journey! I hope that these blog posts have helped along the way!

Today we talk about a new product that is coming soon to the ShopPetTest website. As always, the folks at PetTest are continually looking for new products that can make this Canine Diabetes journey easier for everyone. We have all been in a situation where our pups aren’t feeling well or they just don’t want their normal meal. Maybe a touch of pancreatitis, diarrhea, they just had a dental or maybe they are just having a “diva day”. Well, this new product can give you a “go to” solution right in your pantry! Let me tell you a little bit about the company.

Under the Weather was founded by Kyla Stenlieb in 2015 to develop pet products for busy pet parents. Her Wheaten Terrier Ruffy was having some tummy trouble so her vet suggested that Ruffy be put on a bland diet of chicken and rice until he was feeling better. We have all been there at one time or another. Well, Kyla did the shopping and cooking for Ruffy, and while doing so, she thought that surely there was an easier way… After not finding any readily available solution to this problem, Kyla decided to become the solution! She developed a line of freeze-dried bland diets for pups that are feeling “Under the Weather”. Brilliant!!!

She set out to find the highest quality ingredients sourced in the US to use in her meals. As a result, she won an Industry Recognition Award by Pet Business magazine in 2017.

Under the Weather are also a socially responsible company and an avid supporter of rescuing homeless pets. A portion of every sale goes to support the “Ruffy Rescue Transport Fund” that finances, transports and pays neutering costs to bring shelter animals from overpopulated areas of the United States to Vermont for adoption. In less than 2 short years, the company’s financial support has played a key role in the rescue and placement of several hundred pets!

Being that PetTest is such a huge supporter of Diabetic dogs, looking for like-minded companies to do business with is a never ending search. I’d say that this could be a great match!

So, how do we use this product? It has a shelf life of 3 years and can be kept in the pantry until you need it. When that day comes, you just add boiling water, let it cool down and feed it to your pup. One pouch of Under the Weather will feed a medium sized dog for 2-3 meals. I don’t know about you, but I have definitely been caught in a situation where I needed some chicken and rice and happened to be out of one of those ingredients or I thought that I still had some in the fridge or freezer only to find out that I don’t!!!! Eeeeeek

With this product, you just need to put the kettle on, re-hydrate the food, let it cool down and test, feed, inject. It may be an alternative if you have the desire to home cook, but not the time or energy. You could use this as your base, add some veggies and a multivitamin and you’re good to go! There are currently 9 flavors with several protein sources, even a “novel” protein like Bison! They even have some flavors that include Bone Broth which we just talked about this week!

I hope that once these hit the ShopPetTest.com website, you will be the first in line to try them out and let us know how it goes! If you haven’t figured out that I am a huge believer in companies and people giving back, then you must know it after reading this post! Above all else, I’m just thrilled to know that there are people out there that are trying to make other people’s lives easier by creating products that there is a true need for!
