Preparing for Emergencies

Preparing for Emergencies

I have lived in California most of my life and the weather has always been mild. More than half my life I have lived in southern California, no snow or severe weather so I have been really spoiled.

But last year in August we had to prepare for hurricane Hilary and the forecast was pretty daunting, we were supposed to have torrential downpours and high winds but luckily the hurricane split into two before it reached Los Angeles County and was downgraded to a tropical storm. While surrounding cities and counties got heavy rains and winds, Pasadena was saved from foul weather.

I did prep for the storm just in case. Everything outside that could fly away was moved into the garage, the string lights in the backyard were taken down, delicate plants were moved inside and I got a refresher course on using the generator just in case we lost power. I impatiently waited for the approaching storm and I was a bit nervous and excited. I realized what people in hurricane prone areas go through to prepare for storms and when the storm tuckered out, I was relieved and mildly disappointed that I didn’t get to experience even mild weather. All that work for nothing!

The USA is currently in tornado season and there have been some devastating tornadoes so I wanted to remind everyone to be prepared for emergencies. The following lists are really handy and can be printed for use. I used these whenever we traveled with Lucy as well and they really help to ensure that you have everything covered!
