Time Change: What to Do

Time Change What to Do marquee blog mtmTime Change: What to Do

Daylight Saving Time (DST) was created to help people make better use of daylight during the longer days of the year. Clocks are moved forward in the spring and back in the fall so there’s more daylight in the evening. The idea was that this would save energy by cutting down on electricity use and to help people take advantage of natural light for work and free time. Daylight Saving Time is used in the USA, the UK, most of Europe, Canada, New Zealand, a few countries in South America and the Middle East. Most of Asia, Africa and countries near the equator skip DST since they have better daylight later in the day.

Many of us in the USA want to get rid of time change, it throws our schedules off and this is especially true when we have a diabetic pet. We need to feed and give insulin on schedule and they KNOW exactly when it is time to eat! When Lucy our Parson’s terrier was first diagnosed with diabetes, I had a hard time with “fall back” and really stressed myself out. I figured it out and Lucy was fine…even though it took for her to adjust to the feeding time (their internal clock does not lie).

We are asked a lot in our diabetic dog group what to do when time change is approaching. Here is a handy guide for diabetic dogs and cats.

Important note: Levemir is being discontinued world wide, please stock up and have a conversation with your vet regarding a different insulin.

Until next time stay comfy, don’t stress and you got this!
