The Supplies Every Newly Diagnosed Diabetic Dog Needs

The Supplies Every Newly Diagnosed Diabetic Dog Needs

We have talked about this before, but not in this context. This disease is overwhelming enough without trying to sift and sort what is a “must have” and what is a “would be nice to have” in your supplies. And a “little birdie told me” that the guesswork will be remedied very soon! That’s a hint lol. So let’s break this down…

In my view (and also in the AAHA’s view) every “sugar baby” should be tested at home. So that means just one thing… a meter is a “must have”! This is by far the most important tool available to you and your pup. When testing at home, you will have insights to how your pup is doing and also if there is something going on that needs to be addressed. This one tool has the ability to save you literally thousands of dollars down the road by alerting you that something is happening and needs to be addressed.

Test strips are also a “must have”. Always having a backup box of strips is recommended. I know that not every budget allows every person to have multiple back ups, but please take advantage of the discount codes that are emailed to you routinely and try to have at least one spare box of strips. They can quite literally be a life saver.

Next up on the “must have” list is ketone strips. Another life saver especially if your pup is newly diagnosed. After your meter and strips, this is so very important and will also potentially save you thousands of dollars down the road. Checking for ketones is imperative early on in diagnosis when numbers are in the high range.

Glucose SOS is the next “star” in the lineup. We don’t ever want to be unprepared for a hypo event. There are other ways to treat it, but none more effective than the Glucose SOS. It is a definite “must have” on the supplies list.

D-Mannose is the last thing on the list that is not necessarily a “must have”, but it is something that will help to prevent UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections). Our pups are so prone to UTIs because of the elevated glucose levels in their bodies, especially early on in the diagnosis.

Now here is the “spoiler alert”. The Monday or Tuesday after the GIANT leap day sale (this Saturday), there will be a new product on the www.ShopPetTest.com website. It is a starter kit for the newly diagnosed. I will tell you now that this new kit is “one per household”. Every purchase will be checked and cross checked to make sure that only one kit is shipped to each household. I call this new product the “Newbie kit”.

Now… I’m going to remind you about the HUGE Leap day sale this Saturday. Everything on the www.ShopPetTest.com website will be 50% off. No codes are needed, the sale price will just be in your cart. So start browsing now and make your list of items that you need or want to try.

I’m so excited about this sale and can’t wait to see you all there!!!
